09 April 2004 12:13am +0800: Now that Camile Velasco has been voted out, and I was hoping she won't be, I am now hoping, nahhh, emploring to all the Pinoys out there, wherever you are on the planet, to vote for Jasmine Trias. American Idol is on Fox Tuesdays at 8/7c and Wednesdays 8.30/7.30c. Go Jasmine!
06 April 2004 11:52pm +0800: I had the chance of reading a news article on the net from the Manila Standard early April the 6th, which happens to be the birthday of my youngest sister. If you have not opened the news article yet, you should now. What made me not too happy about the article was that the police said that the absence of a formal complaint had barred them from investing the case. And if this was true, and there's a law that prohobits the police from investigating cases when without complaints, then there's something wrong somewhere, the police or the law. Happenings which are criminal in nature, or one that leads to a crime, I believe, should be investigated by the police even without any complaint. No wonder there are lots of battered women and children who continue to suffer because there is no one complaining!
02 April 2004 12:59am +0800: Spam has been one Internet users' problems. I was thinking of something worth exploring and might work on it after the May 2004 Philippine elections. I am hoping my momentum won't go away so that I could start working on it as soon as possible. On the other hand, the Supercount website is almost finished. A little few tweaks here and there and it's all finished. And hopefully, it will be put to good use. :-)
VIRUS ALERT 25 March 2004 9.19am +0800: The newest version of the Bagle Worm can infect your computer wihout you having to open an attachment, you just need to open an E-mail! Protect yourself by applying the necessary patch for Internet Explorer and Outlook Express by visiting WindowsUpdate and updating your virus definition files! Read the story »
24 March 2004 9.17pm +0800: The E-mail page and all E-mail functions of this site has been restored after a couple of hours after the problem has been identified. Thank you for bearing with us.
23 March 2004 12.45pm +0800: Just found out that my E-mail pages are not working about two hours ago. So if you have tried sending a message to me through the contact link below, then I would like to apologize if by any chance, your E-mail has not gotten through. (This problem has affected E-mail authentication of GatePass and NewsWatcher News Link E-mails.) The techinical department is looking through the problem and hopefully, all problems will be ironed out ASAP.
25 February 2004 01.07pm +0800: News about the up and coming Windows XP SP2 is heating up. See more info and feedback from beta testers at Neowin.
06 February 2004 07.53pm +0800: I have just opened Google a few seconds ago and I got a shock of my life! Google has redirected me to google.com.ph and is in Filipino! What shocked me was the fact that I got used to using this search engine in English and had to admit I am not as good as I should be with this language considering I was born in a non-Tagalog speaking town. Filipino is the national language of the Philippines but is based mainly from Tagalog. Filipino nor Tagalog are not the languages I grew up with and if given the choice, I'd rather choose my own language, Karay-a. After all, Antique, my province, is known to be the first Malay settlement in Philippines. And besides, Google should know that more Filipinos understand English better than Filipino, and that English is the medium of instruction from Nursery to Post-Graduate education.
15 January 2004 03.50am +0800: After weeks of not having searched for any news about Adrian Lamo, here comes the news: Adrian pleads guilty! While I am sad and upset about this story and how events turned, I guess it's Adrian's call. It's his life. And however anyone may oppose his decision to plead guilty, the only thing we can do right now is accept and support him. What makes me sad and upset is the fact that Adrian was not guilty of any offense in the first place. I am no genius but common sense dictates that an open server is an open server, and thus, it means that anyone can get in there and do his thing however he may see fit! (See Befriending "Homeless Hacker" Adrian Lamo by David Strom.) What makes things worse is that Adrian had to accept that it is otherwise and that, according to him, "Any action of mine, I own. I will not deny the consequences of my actions, real or alleged." (See Adrian's full message.) And this is really sad. To Adrian, here's wishing you the best, from my side of the world!
22 December 2003 12.53am +0800: After posting a single post on winforums.org on how to move the Documents and Settings folder in Windows XP, my site hits has increased! LOL! I also would like to thank "gerben" for posting the same link found at Hoe "Documents and Settings" verplaatsen in XP? in computer! totaal forum.
18 December 2003 8.51am +0800: Just in: from cnet.com: New IE bug lets fake sites look real. Microsoft on Tuesday said it was looking into reports of a potential bug in its Web browser that could help malicious hackers design convincing Web site spoofs. The bug, according to security alerts by a bug hunter and a Danish security company, Secunia, could let hackers use a technique to display a false Web address on a fake site.
14 December 2003 10.33am +0800: While those in the US are hoping that the use of the Internet won't be taxed, taxation of Internet use has been practiced in the Philippines ever since! Internet access plans and even prepaid Internet cards all have value-added tax (VAT) equivalents. Aside from the lack of infrastructure, increased prices in Internet use may be another reason why the Philippines is lagging behind other countries when it comes to getting connected. Maybe the Bureau of Internal Revenue can do something about this, and perhaps declare Internet use as tax free.
14 December 2003 1.17am +0800: Ha ha ha! Finally supercount.com is all doing fine and is redirected to the right page! Same goes for the supercount.com forum.
13 December 2003 1.29am +0800: supercount.com may now be accessed by everyone! That's good news! But currently, it is being pointed to this page still. In a couple of days, I am expecting it to be pointed to it's correct page. So by the meantime, please bear with me as this technical stuff can take a while. You may access the correct page of supercount.com at dennislazo.com/supercount for the moment.
11 December 2003 9.37pm +0800: Man has been known to love laying down laws but love more in breaking them. One of the functions of Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) is transport and traffic management. However, it is fun to note, and is quite common too, that you see MMDA vehicles crossing red lights and even turning left even when prohibited, as well as MMDA officers riding vehicles without plates. Now, if simple traffic rules cannot be followed, how do we expect MMDA to do better? Maybe the MMDA chairman can answer these questions?
19 November 2003 11.14pm +0800: It's really funny to think that voters who will be lucky to use the new automated voting form will be filling a lotto-like form. Read the article from 2004 Election Day.
12 November 2003 8.39am +0800: Phew! My site's back on line after a few hours of being down. I thought all the while that I lost my server already!
11 November 2003 12.47pm +0800: Saw my bank statement today. Lo! and behold! The government is charging us more taxes on credit card use. What I find interesting, and perhaps infuriating, is that it's retroactive from January. Another thing that pisses me off is the fact that I feel that I am being taxed twice: first for the expanded VAT when I buy an item, and then again, for using a credit card. I really don't mind paying high taxes, even maybe 40% of how much I earn. But I don't see where my money goes. The government has a huge budget deficit, roads with lots of potholes, government and military cars beating red lights, and SUVs with big wig politicians in them. It's very sad, embarassing, and annoying!
10 November 2003 10.37pm +0800: If the impeachment case against Supreme Court Chief Justice Hilario Davide, Jr, is unconstitutional, then why proceed with the impeachment hearing? That's common sense, pure and simple. But on the other hand, pro-impeachment lawmakers say that the impeachment case is political. Oh yes it is! It's pure politics. Just take a look at who's pro and who's not? I can see the line. Can you? Story »
08 November 2003 11.48pm +0800: I know many public utility vehicle drivers violate traffic laws. It's just right that they be apprehended. But what about drivers of red plated cars that beat red lights and turn left and/or right when the sign says otherwise? There are lots of them here! And please tell those politicians to stop using their sirens. They should wake up early so they won't be late in their appointments. The sirens are irritating and are shouting wolves! No wonder we get lots of traffic mess here. See I Hate Manila Traffic for more.
30 October 2003 8.22am +0800: Only 326,000 OFWs registered for the coming elections against the expected 5 million. Is this an indication that these Filipinos don't trust the government anymore? I won't blame them if they don't anymore. It's been a hair-raising couple of weeks so far with the Senate and the House implying they have greater powers than the Supreme Court. DUH!
29 October 2003 8.48pm +0800: An issue is being resolved such that some ISPs do not have access to supercount.com, my election site and the forum. If you are experiencing this problem, you may use the following URLs: dennislazo.com/supercount for the supercount site and dennislazo.com/supercount/forum for the forum. Thanks! Will post the development of the issue as they come in.
12 October 2003 12.55am +0800: I just found out that eradioportal.com is airing HotFM over the Internet. I have also inquired with them if this is the HotFM that I am connected with. Hopefully this is it because I seem to like the songs that are played LOL! Visit eradioportal.com now and hear it for yourselves!
20 September 2003 1.59am +0800: FreeLamo.com would hopefully, soon place a link called "Who is Adrian Lamo?"
07 September 2003 11.24am +0800: Sometime in July 2003, Microsoft issued a patch for Windows NT4.0/2000/XP/2003 against a DCOM/RPC hole. Some patched their systems. Some didn't. Microsoft learned of this security hole because The Last Stage of Delirium Research Group (LSDRG) informed them of the hole. Then the MSBLASTER worm came. Many, including me, were protected. And I personally appreciate LSDRG for what they have done. If not for them, I would have been a victim of the MSBLAST worm if someone with ill motives knew of the hole before them.
Some companies have closed their security holes as well before hackers with ill motives struck them. Thanks to Adrian Lamo. As Microsoft would put it, "we need the help of the people who discover security vulnerabilities." See Microsoft's Acknowledgement Policy for more details. So I say: Give Lamo a break! If he's not in your systems before anyone else, then you might be in one big trouble!
06 September 2003 11.51pm +0800: It's quite sad to know that someone who may have good intentions, such as Adrian Lamo, a computer expert who hacks into servers and helps administrators fix the vulnerabilities, be issued an arrest warrant, and thus charged in court. It is believed that it was the New York Times who is the culprit. While Lamo believes that there are consquences to his actions, I am just praying that the next hacker who gets inside the New York Times' servers won't exploit the Times' vulnerabities and cause mischief. Story of this is found at Security Focus here.
04 September 2003 7.57pm +0800: As truthful as possible? Duh! See the article that made me smirk here LOL! And no, I used to be charged with WAP usage exceeding the first free minute when I was still using their mobile phones.
16 August 2003 2.48am +0800: MSN Info on MSBLaster is found here.
16 August 2003 1.32am +0800: In an effort to minimize the impact of the MSBLAST Worm, Microsoft has decided to "kill" the domain (windowsupdate.com) on 13 August 2003, that the worm is going to attack, and may already be attacking. Windows Update may still be accessed through windowsupdate.microsoft.com.
14 August 2003 5.02pm +0800: The MSBLAST Worm news came out on Tuesday evening, Philippine-time. This is no ordinary worm as you don't need to open an infected E-mail or open a web page. You just need to be connected to the Internet and you may become infected--if you have not patched your Windows 2000, NT, and XP with Security Update 823980. More information is up on the Internet and I am putting the links on so you may find your way easily:Further, my ISP, Tri-Isys Internet has issued an advisory regarding the worm to all their subscribers. Their advisory may be found here.
09 August 2003 11.08pm +0800: Overheard on my way home: A guy and a policeman were talking.
Guy: Why is the licence plate registration of your car not renewed?
Policeman: I am a policeman. I don't need to do that!
No wonder we are getting nowhere! :(
15 July 2003 8.20pm +0800: On 10 July I received two E-mails with attachments which VirusScan caught to be infected with a virus.
The E-mails had the following headers:

So I sent an E-mail to the suspect. The response was "thank you. we already isolated the pc and fix the problem" two days after!
11 July 2003 6.38pm +0800: Finally, I am happy with my authentication system called GatePass. It is my easy access login system, which would do the work of logging in and logging out of those who wish to join the services I could come up.
19 May 2003 11.07am +0800: After waiting a few days knowing that the queue would be quite long, I finally was able to watch The Matrix. There is only a sentence I could say about the movie (the original and the sequel). The Matrix is Conversations with God - redefined. Just take a look at the parallel ideas. Or maybe, there is a direct link, unknown to the authors. :-)
10 May 2003 9.22pm +0800: Some few codes have been redone for NEWSWATCHER. Everything now should be okay. Check out NEWSWATCHER at dennislazo.com/newswatcher or use the shortcut dennislazo.com/nw.
29 April 2003 11.22pm +0800: My newest project on line is called NEWSWATCHER found at dennislazo.com/newswatcher. Why don't you drop by it and see how it works. It's still in beta so you will have to forgive me for the inconsistencies in the "look," okay? For comments, please do send them by clicking here.
23 April 2003 11.10pm +0800: I got a new project called NEWSWATCHER aimed to deliver news for free...hmmm...let me just finish working on it first. I'm more than halfway through it anyways. I hope things would work out well.
17 April 2003 02.19pm +0800: Microsoft has just released another patch called "Buffer Overrun in Windows Kernel Message Handling could Lead to Elevated Privileges (811493)" affecting Microsoft Windows NT 4.0, Windows 2000, and Windows XP. More information is found at http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/ bulletin/MS03-013.asp and http://www.microsoft.com/security/ security_bulletins/ms03-013.asp.
11 April 2003 09.28pm +0800: Microsoft has just released another patch for their Java Virtual Machine. It is recommended that you apply this security patch (816093: Security Update Microsoft Virtual Machine (Microsoft VM)) through www.windowsupdate.com.
7 April 2003 05.42pm +0800: I have "turned off" the news feed from MoreOver.com about an hour ago. So if you tried to access my site, you will notice that there are no news items in the news box. However, as of this time, I am "reprogramming" the site with free news feed from ERF. The updated site should appear before this day ends. Thank you.
3 April 2003 06.30pm +0800: Moreover.com, this site's news links provider has indicated that they are cutting this free service by the 7th of April. I am currently hunting sites which could provide free news service. If by then, there would be no "qualified" news service to offer free content, the news links on my site will then be temporarily "turned off." However, I am positive of what's up ahead. So you just stay where you are and keep visiting this site for more info.
1 April 2003 11.45pm +0800: You guys might have already heard the news. Peter Arnett has been fired by NBC and National Geographic for the comments he did on Iraqi-TV. But a London Tabloid got him in. Search for Peter Arnett using the search box below to get more news.
1 April 2003: It was a pleasant surprise to hear Ken and Andy on KenRadio.com (March 31st broadcast using Windows Media Player) mention about the E-mail I have sent them. Can I say I am now world famous? LOL! Again, to Ken, Andy, and Angela: Keep up the good work! And by the way, the article that Ken and Andy are talking about is found here.
31 March 2003: I was browsing the Internet tonight and came upon one of the best radio shows I have ever heard. If you want to know what I am talking about, you may visit KenRadio at http://www.kenradio.com.
With all the problems in the world today, this book might be a lot of help. I have not read this book yet, but knowing Neale and his Conversations with God 1, 2, and 3, I am very sure that you won't get disappointed with this. After all, this is us.
